So after Bieber Fever and One Direction Infection, it seems that the new generation of awesome teens have found a medical diagnosis to justify our current obsessions, which have remained a mystery to the older parent types. I mean faking that sick note and skipping last period to stand outside a barrier for a few hours in the cold to catch a glimpse of an awesome person/people is a totally justifiable reason to miss an hour of school right? The sick note may not have even been a TOTAL lie. Bieber Fever and One Direction Infection are illnesses which when not cured can spread- FAST. (Not that I condone bunking- your education is valuable, best not trash it- 1D agrees.)
However, arguably, although this does sound serious, the newly found boy band is much more than pretty faces. Geographically, the majority of UK teenage population now knows where Doncaster, Bradford, Dublin, Wolverhampton and Cheshire are. The birthplace of Louis, Zayn, Niall, Liam and Harry have undeniably brought tourism to these areas and many teenage girls are now aware of the existence of such places.
Additionally, we are apparently a generation of obese children who lack knowledge in all things health. Well, I can almost guarantee you that there has been an increase in the sales of carrots around the country which is helping our economy. The eyesight of teenage girls have shockingly risen due to Louis Tomlinson’s confession of his attraction towards healthy girls who consume the vegetable which is plentiful of Vitamin A. Tomlinson has also encouraged girls to read after a reading session during a video diary which of which the meaningful quote “No, Jimmy Protested” has remained intact within the hearts of many.
Moreover, Harry Styles’ concern towards the environment and wildlife, especially his love for turtles. Thousands of teenagers are now aware of this animal’s significance to the cycle of the world and have expressed their love for the creature.
Zayn Malik has allowed many to embrace diversity and culture. The young lad has spoken about his wish for Roti, a traditional Indian food to trend across Twitter. His existence in the band has opened the minds of many and he has made Rogan Josh a top selling curry, again boosting the economy, after confessing that should he be a food, Zayn would love to be this dish.
Liam Payne has displayed how one should not give up after emerging back on The X Factor 2 years after being rejected. His story brings tears of happiness to the eyes of us all and has motivated teenagers to keep their dream alive. Last but most definitely no least, Niall Horan has taught us all that no matter how famous you become, you can always remain true to yourself. Even after being hoarded by fans, he remains the random, weird and crazy Irish guy whom we all love.

Overall, this is just a brief summary as to why One Direction are a great influence in this generation and to prove that there is indeed hope for the younger generation with role models such as these.
